Cécile and Frédéric Renoux’s estate is just south of Mount Ventoux, in the southeastern region of the Rhône. Set across 12 hectares, the estate includes buildings dating back to the 18th century, with some notably illustrious former owners. However, in more recent times the vineyards and cellar had been neglected, and the quality wines Landra was known for disappeared.
Enter winemakers Cécile and Frédéric, who bought the estate in 2007 and set about resurrecting the vineyards to their former glory. With a commitment to sustainability always in their minds, they restored the vines, cellar and buildings to make wines with a mixture of traditional and modern techniques.
Château Landra’s vines are located at the foot of the Mont du Vaucluse on quaternary alluvium, benefiting from exceptional sunshine and cool nights. These particular climatic conditions make the organic grapes grown by Cécile and Frédéric (including grenache noir, syrah and cinsault for the reds, Roussanne, grenache blanc and Clairette for the whites) finely balanced. Grapes are harvested manually in small batches – each grape variety (and each plot of the same grape variety) is harvested at its ripest and vinified separately. This allows all Landra’s wine to fully express the character linked to each grape variety, age and terroir. After the completion of vinification, some wines are blended while others are aged in barrels for 16 to 18 months.
