Alberto Carretti began his professional career in the lower Piacenza area as a dairy technologist and culatello producer. He soon realised that quality wine resulted from a high-quality and precise process, similar to cheesemaking. This knowledge motivated Alberto to pursue ancient winemaking tradition to eliminate artificial preservatives in the process.
He allows the wine to ferment naturally to produce a distinct flavour unique to the production area. He also hopes to revive vines which are subjected to extinction.
Alberto's wife Claudia Iannelli, on the other hand, worked in furniture and chemical-related industries. She soon realised she had an innate passion for pursuing winemaking. She was captivated by the beauty at Val Ceno and the immense potential, much like the famed region of Tuscany.
Claudia abandoned the corporate indulgence of labelled clothing, international vines and expensive cuvees. She embraced rubber pants and boots. Determined to make the most of the serene and untapped beauty of Podere Pradarolo, she enjoyed engaging with the rich history of the place and learning the natural ways of winemaking in the region.
Together, the pair make a brilliant team. While Alberto focuses on the winemaking, Claudia looks into the smooth running of the business. The Carrettis are also passionate about cooking and agritourism as much as they are about winemaking.
They open up their beautiful home to visitors who wish to experience life on a vineyard and entertain guests with lively parties in their underground wine cellar.
